Limited Edition Castings

These pieces are first created in my studio using modeling clay. I then make a silicone rubber mold from the clay original, finally I cast limited edition pieces from the mold in resin bonded materials such as bronze powder or marble dust, or have foundry cast bronzes made from a local foundry (please allow3-4 months for foundry cast bronzes).

I love the classic look of the bonded bronze, and the luminosity of the marble lends itself very well to backlighting effects.

The Edition number is the number of total castings I will be making of the particular piece (usually 12 or 50), if it says unlimited, I have not put a limit on the number to be produced, and will continue to cast sculpts on demand until the mold wears out. If you would like a specific number within an edition, please contact me for availability.

Lincoln 'Hope For the Future'

12"x24"x2.5"

Edition of 12

Mr. Lincoln stands resolutely.  In his left hand he clutches to his heart a battle worn 1864 flag, the symbol of the Union that he maintained at great cost, proving that unity above all was his primary motive. In his right he bears the handwritten proclamation that would insure freedom to all men and women.  He stands having stepped through the frame which many ancient cultures saw as the separation of the spirit world and our own reality. He looks off through the mists of time to the future, to us, with a hope that we will sustain this great nation, and vigilantly maintain the legacy that he strove so valiantly to achieve.

Many find inspiration in this great leader, and I am no exception. When I was first approached to do this piece I was humbled by the prospect. I spent months researching his speeches and writings. I studiously avoided viewing other artist’s depictions of him until this piece was finished. I worked primarily through photographs of him and the plaster death and life masks that were taken of him. I found images of his suit and shoes in a museum collection as well as the handwritten emancipation proclamation that he holds in his right hand.
